John Maybury is a small-press comic artist who likes to work digitally. He is the creator of the absurdist, surreal, adult SF comedy comic Space Babe 113 which chronicles the naughty adventures in space of Space Babe and her artificially intelligent talking knickers.
Recently, he has been exploring alternative narrative presentation with the mockumentary comic/magazine Believe IT OR Bullsh IT which visits a number of themes whilst detailing the “history” of some fictional comics, newspaper strips and pulp magazines and their creators.
Believe IT OR Bullsh IT follows on from The Newspaper Strip Collection Of Oscar Charles Drayton, a small-press collaboration collecting fictional newspaper strips by a number of artists. Each strip tells its own story whilst simultaneously revealing the collector’s. This comic was edited by John Maybury who also provided the overall story and contributed to the content.

John Maybury: Believe IT OR Bullsh IT
Believe IT OR Bullsh IT is John Maybury ís latest small-press comic which is making its convention debut at the Comica Comiket Fall 2016. Superficially it is a conspiracy theory mockumentary, dealing with the publication disasters surrounding a fictional pulp writer’s creation. The premise being that any publication that dares to mention it is forced to cease publication.
Lurking between the lines (and panels) of the featured fictional comics, newspaper strips and pulps are a number of themes – comments on sexism in both the comics and the lives of their creators being a major one.
