Seeing Poetry: Poetry in Words and Comics is a collaboration between acclaimed poet Clare Shaw (Bloodaxe 2006, 2012) and illustrator Louise Crosby.
Louise illustrates poetry by Clare Shaw in comics form.
Poetry in Words and Comics
In Spring 2014 they were awarded a grant from Arts Council England. This has enabled them to produce two mini books Poem From A Bus Shelter and You’d Start With A Page, and a webcomic She Waited Half Her Life To Write This.
Each of these illustrates one poem originally published by Bloodaxe books. They aim to produce a full-length illustrated book in the future.
Louise also is experimenting by illustrating her own poetry.
Two of these have been Riso printed as small folded zines. Her latest comic Blue Morning will debut at Comica Comiket Spring 2016. It is a political abecedarian poetry comic Riso printed and hand stitched.
Clare and Louise also collaborate on other projects.
They are presently documenting a community arts project, Mechanics at Home using poetry and comics. The project is based at Mechanics Institute, Burnley and is funded by ACE & DLCG.
Louise Crosby also runs Laydeez do Comics, Leeds a group that has been running since November 2011.
